Public Participation in Federal Fiscal Policy and Budget Processes in Canada

This paper examines the nature, extent and impact of public participation in Canada’s federal budget policy and budget processes. The paper is divided into five sections – country overview, the stage for reform, the current state, impact and outcomes and conclusions. The analysis indicates that Canada has a rich history involving public in federal budget processes. Although there have been few innovations in recent years on public participation at the federal level, there is progress at the municipal level where many cities across the country are exploring with methods to greater involve citizens.
